November 27, 2019 No Comments
On November 25th, Mrs. Mortimer and Ms. Jones’ Anthropology, Psychology, Sociology classes were visited by guest speaker Brad Drouin, an Archaeologist from Golder Associates, who conducted workshops on stone tool technology. Students learned about early stone tools from the Archaic Period, making connections to prior learning on Australopithecus and other species, and the relationships between brain development and tools and technology. In the second part of the workshop, students tried their hands at making stone tools, using various flaking and pressure tools and techniques. Students discovered the challenges of making projectile points and tools as early humans, gaining hands-on understanding of our ancestors, and the archaeology of the Carleton Place area.
Special thanks to Brad Drouin for his time and resources.
