‘Globe and Mail’ Referenced Link Crew & Senior Buddies Smooth Transition for New Students

September 4, 2013 No Comments

Orientation activities were held last week for all new grade 7-8 students and the grade 9 class.

Senior Buddies – grade 11 students lead by teachers Jan Johns and Leigh Pritchard – took new grade 7-8 students on tours of the school, helped them find their lockers, got them to their classrooms, and did activities with them before joining them for a barbecue.  Senior Buddies have been connected with 7/8 homerooms and will be connecting with their buddies throughout the year.

The Link Crew (pictured below with grade 9 students) was also in action last week.  A board-wide initiative to help grade 9 students settle into high school, the program is made up of vetted grade 12 students lead by teachers Tammy Hoytema and Geoff Winter.  The program involves a first semester course in leadership and on-going interaction between the Link Crew and the grade nines.

The programme was the focus of a Globe and Mail featured article in the spring.  The article can be found here:
