Dear Parents and Guardians,

The Ministry of Education has directed school boards to decide whether or not to administer the EQAO Grade 9 math assessments scheduled for January. Under the terms of the Ontario Secondary School Teachers’ Federation job action, members may not participate in EQAO preparation or testing.

The Upper Canada District School Board (UCDSB) has decided NOT to administer the EQAO Grade 9 math assessment scheduled for January. Teachers will continue to teach and assess the remainder of the math curriculum for Semester 1.

Schools will communicate with students and parents if this change will impact current coursework. If you have questions, please contact your school principal directly.

The Ministry of Education indicated that students who do not take the assessment in Semester 1, will need to do so in Semester 2. The UCDSB is awaiting further direction from the ministry with regards to this make-up assessment. Once received, we will then establish a plan to administer the assessment, recognizing that this will pose a challenge to school staff and Grade 9 students who are not studying math in Semester 2.

We will communicate any additional labour related updates via My Family Room, our website and social media. We want to thank our families for their patience during these uncertain times.

Thank you,

Stephen Sliwa

Director of Education
Upper Canada District School Board
