On Thursday, October 4th, 2018, our CPHS Intermediate Cross Country Team travelled to Kemptville to take part in the annual Turkey Trot.  Our Grade 7 Girls’ team of Jade Van Klei and Hailey Smith started the day with a strong race by Jade and valuable experience for Hailey.  Our Grade 7 Boys’ team of Carson Garrod, Ty Puckett, birthday boy Rory Vandrish, Jackson Mann and Evan Swallow were next to hit the course.  All the boys ran great races and gained more experience as they tackled a new course. Our Grade 8 Girls’ team of Fiona de Breyne, Maddie Seaby, Taya Schooley, Emmerson Gormley and Emma Boutin had a strong showing with Maddie taking 3rd place. Our Grade 8 Girls placed 4th overall to end the day heading into our meet in Almonte. The Grade 8 Boys’ team of Sascha Ferenczi, Noah Doell, James Patchell, Tyson Wark, Caleb Etherington and Ben Lafreniere were our last group to hit the course.  All of the boys had good races lead by Sascha who finished 20th out of 99 competitors.  Overall, our team of 18 runners had a very successful day finishing fifth overall out of the seventeen schools competing.  Again, Mr. Hickey and Mr. Papple were impressed with the sportsmanship and CPHS Bears’ pride that all runners showed.   We will continue practicing on Tuesdays and Thursdays at first recess as we prepare for our qualifying meet in Almonte before the UC Cup at the end of the month.  GO BEARS!
